The Treatment of Asthma

Many people grappling with asthma have never given yoga a thought when they are looking for a solution to their problem. Unknown to them, yoga is a form of exercise that will help you get the much needed relief you want. It is a breathing exercise that will people suffering from mild asthma. Also, it helps reduce the use of low-dose drug inhalers by asthma patients.

Yoga practitioners believed in the benefits of pranayama breathing exercises for asthma patients. But this has not been proved formally. Two forms of simulated pranayama exercise were tested. These are slow deep breathing and breathing out for twice as long as breathing in.

It is reported that more than 3 million children and adults are affected with the problem. Also, it is reported that about 2,000 lives are claimed annually by asthma.

Doctors made use of standard clinical tests to measure the volume of air patients were able to blow out in a second. Also they tested the irritability of the patient's airways. After having the patients go through yoga, it was discovered that their airways were twice less irritable.
