Global Warming

Global warming is the theory that average temperatures around the world have begun to rise, and will continue to rise, because of an increase of certain gases in Earth's atmosphere. These gases are called ""greenhouse gases"" because they trap heat just like a greenhouse. The most plentiful greenhouse gases are water vapor and carbon dioxide. The increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is believed to be the main reason for global warming. What Causes Global Warming? Approximately two-thirds of the energy earth receives from the sun is absorbed by land masses and oceans and is then released into the atmosphere as warm, long-wave radiation. The atmosphere of earth is full of so-called greenhouse gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, methane, and nitrous oxide that act like a blanket, trapping some of the heat radiating from the land and oceans and preventing too much energy from escaping into space. The gas blanket works in much the same way as the glass panels of a greenhouse, serving to trap energy and keep temperatures at a steady level. The trapped heat keeps earth at a comfortable average temperature of about sixty-three degrees Fahrenheit. This process is known as the greenhouse effect. Point 1 - Global warming Caused by Natural Geologic Trends Human activities such as clear-cutting rain forests, burning fossil fuels, and driving cars contribute toward global warming. But human effects on climate are negligible compared with the effects naturally produced by the Earth, the atmosphere, and the Sun. The term global warming can be misleading or even alarmist. A warming climate is a complex and erratic phenomenon, which may include or even pass over into long or short periods of global or regional cooling. Similarly, periods of global cooling can include or pass over into warming periods. Until fairly recently in geologic time, there was a long period when the Earth was too warm to allow the formation of polar ice caps. Ocean levels naturally fall and rise as the Earth alternately cools and warms, and as the size of the polar ice caps consequently increases and decreases. Probably the greatest single factor in determining global cooling and warming cycles is the fluctuation of the Sun's energy output, over which humans obviously have no control. Humans released twice as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in 1990 as in 1958, but very little of this carbon dioxide remained in the atmosphere to increase the overall concentration of greenhouse gases. The main reason that atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has not kept pace with industrial carbon dioxide emissions is that carbon dioxide is soluble in water. The oceans are far from saturated with carbon dioxide. A more troublesome way that humans increase carbon dioxide levels is by deforestation, which increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by reducing the number of trees and other green plants that use atmospheric carbon dioxide in photosynthesis. Another climatological factor is volcanic activity, a widespread, powerful, and completely natural phenomenon that generally has the effect of lowering atmospheric temperature after each eruption. There is no denying the danger facing such places as Venice, New Orleans, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh, which may all disappear under the sea within the next few hundred years. That danger is quite real, but little or nothing can be done about it, as natural causes far outstrip anthropogenic causes of the current global warming trend. Point 2 - Global Warming Caused by Humans According to the Third Assessment Report of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released in 2001, ""There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities."" Greenhouse gases accumulating from burning fossil fuels, and other gas-producing activities of industry, are blanketing the Earth and so causing the warming trend. The blanket of greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and tropospheric ozone) keeps the planet about 59F (15C) warmer than it would be without the cover. Water vapor is by far the most abundant greenhouse gas. The greenhouse effect gets its name because a layer in the atmosphere acts like the glass in a greenhouse, letting the Sun's light energy in, but preventing reflected lower energy heat radiation from escaping. All the greenhouse gases that occur naturally are also produced by human activities, thus increasing their levels in the atmosphere at an accelerating pace. In addition to the ""natural"" greenhouse gases are the fluorocarbons, which only appeared in the atmosphere when introduced by humans. Over the millennium before the Industrial Era, the atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases remained relatively constant, according to the IPCC report. Chlorofluorocarbons are believed by most scientists to be responsible for depleting the ozone layer that exists at the top of the stratosphere, the second layer in the Earth's atmosphere. The upper stratospheric ozone layer shields the Earth from intense ultraviolet radiation that causes skin cancer."

Benefits of a Spiritual Moment in Healing and How to Take That Into Your Everyday Life

As we enter difficult financial times, simple quality of life can become a significant tool. When we are dissatisfied within, it is normal to look outside to become satisfied. It is fine to be entertained and served in our life, but there may be a time when we can not afford it. That is where finding quality within definitely serves you and you can better deal with difficult times. " In a health crisis, the quality of your life helps the body to heal and cope with difficulties. Too often when you ignore your inner resources, you participate in a negative way and your efforts limit your natural healing potential. " Negative thinking limits the effectiveness of your treatments and at the same time sends a negative message to your body. You may not be able to control a health crisis, but you always can control how you think about it and interpret what is happening. " Too often we fall back on the way we have been conditioned in the past to deal with health challenges. Those old habits were conditioned without the intention of preparing you to be sick. You have to take control and condition conscious habits that serve you in a health challenge. "
Conscious habits can change the way you think and interpret your struggles. They can change how you trust yourself and how you express your heart. In a health challenge those qualities have a significant role in how you heal and cope with your situation. " When you take control over this sub-conscious influence in your life, you become an empowered partner with your doctor instead of a victim of your situation. Patients have a real role to play in healing. They have the ability to consciously use both inner and outer resources. " In the past patients were expected to suffer as a natural part of healing. When patients use both inner and outer resources to heal, suffering can be eliminated from the healing process as they spiritually develop. The moment is spiritual if you are ill or not, but when consciousness enters it, the potential for healing is the greatest. "
Now let's look at the struggles we face in our everyday life. If you were able to tap those same inner resources to deal with everyday struggles, you would remove resistance and useless stress from your life. In a health struggle it is easy to see that life is more important than your thoughts, but in our everyday life that consciousness is replaced with our conditioned character. It is totally possible to live in that conscious moment.

Women's Safety Tip - How to Teach Your Kids About Safety - Important Safety Tip For Women

Many child safety programs inadvertently teach kids the opposite of what they want them to learn and then wonder why the kids do what they do. Women, moms, aunts, grandmothers, sisters, girlfriends, listen up! I'm going to share with you the most important child safety tip you will ever learn.
The subconscious mind ignores negative words.
Simple, isn't it? But oh, what an impact refusing to adjust our language has on our child's life, every minute of every hour of every day!
Let me explain. We were all kids once, right? Remember when you were running in the house and your mom kept saying, "Don't run in the house," and you kept running? She kept saying it and, if you're like the rest of us, you kept running. Were you disobeying? No. What Mom was telling your subconscious was, "Run in the house." She didn't realize her message was not delivered in its entirety.
We learn what to do by being told what to do. We also learn to do what people tell us not to do since the subconscious mind cannot "picture" not doing something. If Mom started out saying, "Please walk in the house," we would have walked. Our subconscious can picture it and therefore adjusts our behavior to act it out.
Action Steps For Safer Kids
Think about how many times you tell your child "no" or use the words "not" or "don't," "never" or "stop."
Write down the most common sentences you use with those words in them.
Rephrase the sentences now, before you need them, so you'll be ready with positive verbiage next time.
Example: switch "Never answer the door when I'm not home," to "Stay far away from the door if someone knocks when you're here alone."
Always tell your child what TO do in a positive manner. It takes practice. Speaking positively works for everyone of every age so practicing on your friends, relatives and coworkers will only improve every communication and relationship in your life.
So, now you know how to teach your kids about safety and the added benefit is that you know the key to getting what you want honestly, responsibly, quickly and peacefully.

Have you ever wondered in what way are women like the computers we have at home?

Before you read any further, please note that this is not a piece out to damage or cut down the important role of women in our society. Read below only as humour and nothing more. These are intended solely for a good laugh.
Women are unique in many ways (and by this I mean different than men) and its this specific uniqueness or certain traits that I refer to when likening a woman to a personal computer. Do not get offended; it is intended to create a smile.
1) A woman is like a computer in that she costs more than you thought it would.
2) A woman resembles a personal computer in that she will not do exactly what you thought it will.
3) After a while, you simply cannot do without both: your computers and your woman.
4) Computers are just like women: after you have gotten used to them and cannot do without them, you discover that one is not enough.
5) Some computers, like some women, serve many people.
6) You can work miracles with both by gently using your fingers if you only know the proper code.
7) If you are inactive with them for more than fifteen minutes, they go off.
8) Just like a computer, the one who runs her has more privileges than just anyone else who is just running her.
9) When there are short-circuits of electricity, they shut you off and then you cannot always return to what was before the short-circuit.
10) Normally, they are available and receptive in the night, but its a lot better when they are available and receptive in the morning.
11) When you are, at last, sure that they will do what you wanted, they go off and do something else.
12) The only thing that you predict about the future with them is that they will react unpredictably.
13) Just like women, so too for computers: every year a new model is released that is younger, more advanced and gives a lot more.
14) A woman is just like a computer: you are happy with what you have but when you see what your friends have got, you are sure you want what they have.
15) Women are like computers in that no matter how much you improve and put into them, they only improve for a short time and then go back to their same old pace.
16) Women are like computers in that every day a new program comes out promising to revolutionize your knowledge and use of them, but after spending a lot more cash you realize that none of them work better than the old one you had before.
17) Women are like computers: you always want what others have and they want what you have but you cannot switch even for a trial basis.
18) Women are like computers in that when you get them you are sure that they are the best. But when the days go back, you wonder why you did not get them with a replacement note.

New Weight Loss Diets in 2009 - Review of Fad Diets From 2008

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, if you have any interest in losing weight then you must have heard of either the cabbage soup diet, the acai berry detox diet that was made popular on Oprah and the Banana diet. Yup, if you're thinking these all sound wacky then you wouldn't be too far off. Instead of speculating let me tell you briefly about each one and what the best way to lose weight in 2009 will be. Hopefully this way you'll avoid some of the fad diets of 2008 this way and use some new weight loss diets that actually work.
The Cabbage Soup Diet
What do you do? You eat cabbage soup every day for 7 days with a set amount of additional food each day. For example, on the first day you can have the soup and some fruits, another day you're allowed the soup and some lean meat etc.
Does it work? In comparison to the next couple of fad diets I'll mention, I'd say this one has the most legitimate claim to weight loss. By restricting carbs for the majority of the diet and primarily going off of soups and raw foods some days, weight loss can actually be expected. The change ups in the diet are a little strange, but overall this one isn't bad, and the fresh cabbage soup you need to eat every day can be quite good for you, assuming you're making it fresh and from scratch.
The Acai Berry Detox Diet
What do you do? Drink Acai berry juice everyday with a fiber shake... that's it.
Does it Work? I'm not fond of this diet at all, because it isn't one, and I feel there's quite a bit of deception surrounding it. For one thing it proposes Acai berry as the leading reason for its weight loss, when in reality it's the fiber shake that you need to drink every day that's providing the majority, if not all of the weight loss related benefits. Acai berries have many nutritional benefits. However I believe the push that they're getting for weight loss is unfounded and is just a way to cash in on the VERY expensive Acai juice that sells typically for around $40 for 30 servings, of which you are required to take 2 of every day to truly notice anything at all. If this is a special diet then so is eating fresh fruit and taking fiber every day, oh wait that's called staying healthy!
The Banana Diet
What do you do? You wake up drink some warm water and eat as many bananas as you'd like until you're no longer hungry. Then eat whatever you want for the rest of the day.
Does it work? I think these fad diets are just getting worse. The testimonials behind the success of this diet are sketchy at best, oh and they originated online too so don't place too much in the way of expectations on this diet. If this was actually a structured diet, as opposed to just eating bananas for breakfast then maybe there could be something to it, the way it is though its lacking... Significantly!
What are some weight loss diets for 2009?
Calorie Shifting: Basically using a system that balances out what you eat every day in an organized and easy to follow way you can expect to lose weight effortlessly. Best of all you don't have to stress over each meal trying to figure out if its ok to eat.
